Malachy was a native of Kilkerley and played football for Kilkerley Emmets. His prowess as a footballer saw him represent the Louth minors as a young man in the late 1940's After emigrating to the USA in the 1950's Malachy played football in New York before returning with his Haggardstown wife Anna (nee McGahon) and six children to take up residence at Dublin Road Haggardstown in the early 1970's.

As an avid GAA supporter Malachy soon got involved in the local GAA scene and as the boys Malachy jnr, Brian and Dermot began their playing careers he was an ever present at matches throughout the county. His greatest and proudest day came in 1982 when the younger Malachy gave a man of the match performance to help Geraldines to a first Louth SFC win in 60 years against his old club Kilkerley Emmets.

Kevin also got to be on the pitch that day as he was the team mascot. Over the next 20 odd years Malachy was an ever present at Geraldines games following the progress of the club and his 3 playing sons Malachy jnr, Brian and Dermot, who at times alternated between the USA where they were citizens and McGeough Park where they were at home.

Malachy was famous as a prolific fundraiser for the Geraldines club none more so than when he helped raise a very significant sum of money in the late  1980's that was used to build the present clubhouse. Malachy served as both treasurer and later chairman during this time but was happiest when he was working in the trenches with other stalwarts such as Sean Cranny, John McGuinness, Ben Dunne, Jimmy Tuft, Tom Duffy along with younger men like Paul Renaghan, Colm Mackin and John Lynch.

The hundreds of hours of voluntary labour done by these men and many others ensured that thousands of euro were saved in labour costs.

Malachy was also active in fund raising for the new GAA stadium presently being built in Dundalk selling an inordinate number of tickets in the 2 house fundraising draw. In latter years Malachy got great sport from following the footballing careers of his grandsons John, Shane and especially Michaelwho has been playing senior football now for 17 years  or more and also his granddaughter Emma.

Off the field Malachy ran a very successful garage and petrol pumps in Bailieboro for many years before retiring to help Dermot in the building trade. In truth he never retired as men like Malachy Rogers don't retire. A tough but fair man who loved the company of others, Malachy was a formidable man on and off the pitch and was as loyal a GAA man as ever stood at a game.
